Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Your trek begins with a scenic one-hour drive from Pokhara to Phedi, passing through lush hillsides, terraced farmlands, and charming rural villages. The road climbs steadily above the Pokhara Valley, offering early glimpses of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna peaks on a clear morning. Upon reaching Phedi, your trekking adventure officially starts.

The trail rises immediately from Phedi up a beautifully crafted stone staircase—one of the classic entrances into the Annapurna region. As you ascend, you walk through dense forest, passing moss-covered rocks, small shrines, and farms with buffalo, goats, and chickens wandering freely. The climb is steady but rewarding, and the peaceful surroundings filled with birdsong create a refreshing start. Halfway up, the trees give way to open terraced fields where local farmers grow millet, rice, and seasonal vegetables.

Arriving at Dhampus, you enter one of the most scenic Gurung villages in the foothills of the Annapurnas. The village is known for its stone houses, well-preserved culture, and panoramic Himalayan views. From Dhampus, the majestic peaks of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Lamjung Himal, and Machhapuchhre appear incredibly close. In the evening, you can walk through the village, observe traditional Gurung lifestyle, visit local monasteries, or simply relax with a cup of tea while watching the sunset light up the mountains.

Total walking duration: 3–4 hrs.

Day 2

After waking up to a magnificent sunrise over the Annapurna range, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before beginning your trek to Australian Camp. The trail starts with gentle paths passing through small settlements, terraced fields, and open ridges. Soon, you enter a dense forest of rhododendron, oak, and pine, where the cool shade and sweet smell of mountain vegetation make the walk enjoyable. During spring, the forest turns into a breathtaking corridor of red and pink rhododendron blossoms.

As you gradually gain altitude, you may encounter various species of Himalayan birds such as magpies, minivets, and the colorful Danphe (Lophophorus), Nepal’s national bird. The trail occasionally opens up to viewpoints overlooking the Pokhara Valley on one side and the rising Himalayas on the other, making the journey exceptionally scenic.

Reaching Australian Camp (2232m) feels rewarding as you step into a wide hilltop meadow surrounded by forests and backed by towering mountains. Known for one of the best panoramic viewpoints near Pokhara, Australian Camp offers unobstructed views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna II, and Lamjung Himal. In the evening, stroll around the camp area, take photos, and enjoy a spectacular sunset as the mountains slowly change colors from silver to gold.

Spend the night in a comfortable tea house, enjoying the peaceful alpine atmosphere and the crisp mountain air.

Day 3

After breakfast in the refreshing mountain environment, you begin the easy descent toward Kande, which is the endpoint of your trek. The trail winds through a beautiful forested section with tall pine trees, wildflowers, and occasional views of the distant Pokhara valley. This descent is relaxing and scenic, making it a pleasant conclusion to the trek.

As you approach Kande, the landscape opens up to terraced farmlands and small settlements. You’ll pass through local homes, where villagers can be seen farming, collecting firewood, or tending livestock. After reaching Kande (1545m), your vehicle will be waiting to drive you back to Pokhara, just 30–40 minutes away. The return journey offers more scenic views of the valley, lakes, and surrounding hills.

Once back in Pokhara, you can enjoy the rest of the day relaxing by Phewa Lake, exploring Lakeside, or celebrating the completion of your short yet beautiful Himalayan trek.
