Package OverviewGosaikunda Trek is a popular trekking route in the Langtang region Nepal, known for its beautiful landscapes, alpine lakes, and views of the Himalayas. Gosaikunda is also a great religious site, famous for its culture and religion.
Trip ItineraryAfter breakfast, we take a scenic drive form Kathmandu to Dhunche, which is the starting point of the Gosaikunda Trek, which takes approx. 7 hours under normal road condition. During driving, we can see snowcapped mountains like Mt. Annapurna II, Manasalu, the view of Ganesh Himal, and other minor peaks along the route.
Start your day with breakfast in Dhunche, and the ascent towards Chandanbari. The trail takes you through rhododendron and pine trees, with stunning view of the Langtang Himalayan range.
After approx. 6 hours’ trek, we will reach Sing Gompa (Chandanbari) where we get beautiful panoramic view of the landscape. We can also find Buddhist monasteries and a Yak Cheese factory, where we can try the delicious Yak cheese and visit Sing Gompa.
After a hearty breakfast, we will start our trek to Gosaikunda. The trek gradually ascends uphill via rugged and narrow trail, where we walk through barren hills and encounter cold breeze.
After approx. 3 hours, we will reach Lauri Binayak (3920 m) where we get panoramic view of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu and Langtang Ri. We can stop for a lunch break.
Before reaching Gosaikunda, we will pass by Shakyamuni Temple, and other smaller lakes (Saraswati Kunda, Bhairav Kunda, and Surya Kunda). We reach Gosaikunda Lake after approx. 3-4 hours. We can explore the lakes and surrounding area.
Local people believe that Lord Shiva created the Gosaikunda. According to Hindu mythology Gosaikunda is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Gauri. Many Hindu pilgrimages visit this place during the full-moon festival every August; the annual festival called Janai Purnima, when devotees worship and take a holy dip in the lake to cleanse themselves of sins.
The trek to Gosaikunda offers not only a spiritual journey but also an opportunity to witness the natural beauty of the Himalayas, making it a popular destination for both religious pilgrims and trekkers.
Early morning after breakfast, we will start our trek back to Sing Gompa via Lauri Binayak where we get to see stunning mountain views. We will follow back the same trail through the pine forest. Along the way, we might also spot different protected birds like Wood Snipe, Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snow Cock, etc.
After about 6 hours, we will reach Sing Gompa where we rest for the night.
Today we will trek back to Dhunche enjoying the alluring views of mountains and the flavorful cheese of Chandanbari while hiking downhill.
After about 7 hours, we will reach Dhunche.
After breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu, passing various terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills, and along the Trishuli riverside.
