Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Maximum Altitude: 1,780 meters (Jhinu Danda) | Drive Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Trekking Duration: 5 hours

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, a bustling town located at the foot of the Annapurna mountain range. The drive takes you through lush green hills, alongside terraced rice fields, and past quaint villages. The snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna Range will begin to come into view as you approach Nayapul. As you leave Pokhara behind, you’ll pass through traditional settlements like Birethanti, Kyumi, and Siwai, where you can get a glimpse of daily life in the hills, from farmers tending fields to local women carrying baskets. The landscape transitions from fertile valleys to steeper slopes, creating a stunning backdrop of cascading waterfalls and mountain views.

The trek from Nayapul to Jhinu Danda is a pleasant 5-hour hike, passing through dense forests and traditional villages. You’ll cross several small rivers and streams, using suspension bridges that add an adventurous element to the journey. The local Gurung, Magar, and Tamang communities live here, and you’ll have the chance to interact with friendly locals who have a deep connection to the land. Jhinu Danda is famous for its natural hot springs, where you can unwind and soak in the healing waters after a long day of trekking. The hot springs are nestled on the banks of the Modi River, offering an incredible way to relax while surrounded by the beauty of the mountains.

Day 2

Maximum Altitude: 2,310 meters (Bamboo) | Trekking Duration: 6 hours

After breakfast, you’ll begin your trek from Jhinu Danda, heading towards Bamboo. The trail gradually ascends through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo, with occasional views of the Annapurna massif. As you hike, the landscape changes, from lush green hills to the drier, alpine forest zones as you gain altitude. The trek takes you through Sinuwa and Chhomrong, two scenic villages where you can observe the rural lifestyle of the Annapurna people. These villages are surrounded by terraced fields, where locals grow rice, corn, and vegetables. The sound of bubbling streams and distant waterfalls adds to the tranquil atmosphere of the walk.

Along the way, you will pass through charming villages, observing traditional stone houses, handwoven clothes, and farming implements. The people in this region are renowned for their hospitality and their deep-rooted connection to the land. As you continue, the trail will take you through a thick bamboo forest, where you may hear the sound of rustling leaves as wildlife moves through the trees. The last stretch to Bamboo is relatively easy, and you’ll find a number of teahouses where you can rest and take in the surrounding beauty. Spend the night in a simple yet cozy teahouse, where the hospitality of the locals and the cool mountain air will provide a peaceful retreat.

Day 3

Maximum Altitude: 3,230 meters (Deurali) | Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Today, your journey takes you from Bamboo to Deurali. The trail begins with a climb through dense bamboo forests, where the air is cool and damp. As you ascend, you’ll notice the vegetation thinning out, and the surroundings becoming more alpine in nature. The trail becomes more rugged and rocky, and you’ll cross several streams and suspension bridges, each offering a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape.

The trek to Himalaya offers great views of the Himalayan peaks, and you’ll notice a glacial river flowing below. This section of the trek can be challenging due to the steep ascent, but the stunning views and the peaceful ambiance of the forest make it worthwhile. After reaching Himalaya, the trail continues on a rocky path to Hinku Cave, where you may encounter a small shelter used by climbers as a base for high-altitude expeditions. The climb gets steeper as you near Deurali, where the landscape is characterized by barren rocky cliffs, waterfalls cascading down the mountainside, and remnants of the alpine forest. Deurali is a small settlement offering a peaceful atmosphere and a good place for acclimatization, with several teahouses where trekkers can relax before continuing the journey.

Day 4

Maximum Altitude: 4,130 meters (Annapurna Base Camp) | Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Today, you’ll reach your ultimate destination: Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). The journey begins early, with a climb through rocky and challenging terrain. You’ll pass the avalanche-prone areas, where you’ll need to be cautious, especially during the winter months. The 360-degree views of the snow-capped peaks surrounding you are incredible, with peaks like Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, and Hiunchuli forming a stunning backdrop.

After a steep ascent, you’ll arrive at Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). The base camp is a rest point where you can acclimatize and take in the panoramic views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), Annapurna South, and Himalayan giants like Annapurna III and Singu Chuli. After a short break and some exploration, you’ll continue the trek to Annapurna Base Camp. The final part of the trek takes you across rocky fields and alpine meadows, with glacial rivers meandering below. As you arrive at ABC, the views are simply breathtaking, and the sight of snow-clad peaks surrounding you in every direction is awe-inspiring. Spend the night in a teahouse at ABC and marvel at the starlit sky

Day 5

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

You’ll descend back from ABC to Sinuwa Danda. The return trek offers a different perspective of the mountains, with stunning views of the Annapurna Range and Machhapuchhre. The descent is relatively easy compared to the ascent, and you’ll pass familiar villages like Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Himalaya. The landscapes shift as you lose altitude, and you’ll be immersed in dense forests, crossing small streams and walking through scenic villages.

As you approach Sinuwa, you’ll once again be surrounded by traditional villages and terraced fields, where locals are busy with farming and livestock. The return journey gives you a chance to interact with the locals, observe their lifestyle, and learn about the culture of the Annapurna region. You’ll arrive at Sinuwa Danda after about 5–6 hours of trekking and spend the night at a teahouse.

Day 6

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours (to New Bridge) | Drive Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

On the final day of the trek, you’ll descend from Sinuwa through Chhomrong and make your way back to Nayapul. The route passes through forested trails, villages, and terraced fields, offering a different perspective of the Annapurna region as you retrace your steps. From Chhomrong, you can either take the route to Ghandruk or Jhinu Danda. The descent is fairly easy, and the new route provides a fresh outlook on the landscape.

Once you reach Nayapul, you’ll drive back to Pokhara, where you can relax after your epic adventure. The scenic drive back offers views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountains in the distance, as well as the rolling hills and rivers.
