Trip ItineraryYour trek begins with a scenic one-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, traveling through lush countryside dotted with small villages, rice terraces, and views of rolling green hills. Upon arrival in Nayapul, the bustling starting point of several famous Annapurna trails, you begin walking along the banks of the Modi Khola, crossing quaint suspension bridges, passing tea houses, and observing local farmers tending their fields.
As you gradually ascend, the trail introduces you to the lifestyle of the Himalayan foothills—children walking to school, mules transporting goods, and villagers offering warm greetings. The landscape becomes increasingly beautiful with terraced farmlands carved like steps into the hillside, offering glimpses of the snow-capped peaks between the forests.
Reaching Ghandruk, one of the most iconic Gurung villages, is a highlight of the first day. Built entirely from stone, the village is a maze of narrow paths, slate-roofed houses, and colorful prayer flags. The panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) are breathtaking and remain some of the best vantage points of the trek.
You can explore the Gurung Museum, monasteries, and local homes to learn about traditional clothing, weaponry, cultural artifacts, and the long history of Gurung participation in the British Gurkha regiment.

Today’s trek begins with a gentle walk through the upper parts of Ghandruk, where the morning sun illuminates the mountains like a golden crown above the village. You pass through beautiful forests, small shrines, terraced fields, and hillside pastures. The trail soon ascends to a ridge offering some of the best morning views of Machhapuchhre.
Descending steeply toward Kimron Khola, you’ll walk through subtropical forest rich with rhododendron, oak, and various bird species. In spring, this route becomes a vibrant tunnel of red and pink rhododendron blossoms.
After crossing the suspension bridge at the river, the trail climbs gradually through a serene forest path until you reach Chhomrong, a beautiful stepped village stretching along a mountain slope. As the last major settlement on the route to ABC, Chhomrong has well-equipped lodges, bakeries, and fantastic views of Annapurna South towering just above the village.
In the evening, enjoy wandering through the village, interacting with locals, and experiencing the strong Gurung hospitality and culture. The sunsets and sunrises here are especially spectacular.

From here, the trail enters deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary through a quiet bamboo forest where the air becomes cooler and the environment serene.
Walking through Bamboo and Dovan, you’ll notice a dramatic change in vegetation—dense bamboo groves, moss-covered rocks, wild orchids, and rushing waterfalls. The sound of the Modi Khola echoes through the valley, creating a calming natural rhythm throughout the hike.
The path winds through steep-sided forested gorges, where sightings of langur monkeys, colorful pheasants, and rare Himalayan plant species are common. As you approach Himalaya, the forests thin and the valley narrows dramatically, surrounded by cliffs carved by ancient glaciers and waterfalls cascading from above.
Himalaya is a quiet stop with a refreshing atmosphere, making it perfect for rest and acclimatization.

This is one of the most memorable days of the trek. Leaving Himalaya, you follow the trail alongside cliffs and riverbeds toward Deurali, a dramatic landscape of glacial deposits, exposed rock walls, and open plains. The area is prone to avalanches in winter, making it one of the most geologically interesting sections.
After a short rest and tea break, you continue climbing toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). As you approach MBC, the mighty north face of Machhapuchhre dominates the skyline. The meadows around MBC are wide, open, and surrounded by towering peaks—a perfect lunch stop.
The next stretch to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) offers some of the most incredible scenery of the entire Annapurna region. You emerge into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a natural amphitheater surrounded by giant Himalayan peaks over 7,000–8,000 meters. Glacial streams, alpine meadows, scattered boulders, and the sound of the glacier cracking create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Upon reaching ABC, you are rewarded with unmatched 360-degree views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, and Annapurna III. The sunsets and starlit nights here feel surreal.

After taking photographs and enjoying breakfast, you begin descending. The return journey offers new perspectives on the surrounding glaciers, cliffs, and alpine scenery. Retracing your steps through MBC and Deurali, you’ll re-enter the lush forests, where the air becomes warmer and denser with pine, oak, and bamboo scents.
The final stretch to Bamboo is refreshing, as the trail is mostly surrounded by greenery, waterfalls, and wildlife. The lower altitude here provides a comfortable and peaceful rest after the high-altitude exposure of the previous days.

Leaving Bamboo, you retrace your steps through lush forest trails, crossing wooden bridges, passing small waterfalls, and enjoying quiet moments along the river. The trail climbs back to Sinuwa and then descends to Chhomrong Khola before the final ascent into Chhomrong Village, where you’ll stop for lunch with dramatic views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
From Chhomrong, a steep descent takes you to Jhinu Danda, a charming village perched on a ridge. After settling in, a short 20-minute walk takes you to the famous natural hot springs located by the rushing Modi River. The warm mineral-rich water is wonderfully soothing—perfect for relaxing tired muscles while surrounded by the sound of the river and views of dense forest.
