Package Overview

This 7-day Ghorepani – Poon Hill – Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a perfect Himalayan journey that combines classic viewpoints, rich mountain culture, and the dramatic heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. Beginning from the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, the trek follows scenic drives, ancient stone staircases, and forested trails through traditional Gurung and Magar villages.

The route first leads to Ghorepani and the famous Poon Hill viewpoint, offering one of Nepal’s most iconic sunrise panoramas over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre. From there, the trek descends into charming settlements like Tadapani and Chhomrong, before entering the lush bamboo forests and deep valleys of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

The highlight of the adventure is reaching Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m), a spectacular natural amphitheater surrounded by towering snow-covered peaks. The journey concludes with a relaxing descent and a rejuvenating soak at Jhinu Danda hot springs, followed by a scenic drive back to Pokhara. This itinerary is ideal for trekkers seeking a complete Annapurna experience in a limited timeframe.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Drive Duration: 2–3 hours | Trek Duration: 4–5 hours

Your adventure begins with a beautiful morning drive from Pokhara (827 m) along winding roads that hug the lush hillsides and river valleys of the Modi Khola. Along the way, you’ll pass charming Gurung and Magar villages, terraced farmlands, and cascading waterfalls. The drive offers a first glimpse of the majestic Annapurna range shimmering in the distance.

From Ulleri, the trek starts with a steep stone staircase that climbs steadily through dense rhododendron, oak, and bamboo forests. The air grows cooler and fresher as you ascend, occasionally opening up to panoramic views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. As you near Ghorepani (2,860 m), the trail winds through mossy woodlands, bird-filled groves, and colorful teahouses perched along the hillside. The village, known for its vibrant blue roofs, sits on a ridge that offers stunning sunset views over Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range.

Day 2

Hike Duration (Poon Hill round trip): 1.5–2 hours | Trek Duration: 4–5 hours

Before dawn, begin your short but invigorating climb to Poon Hill (3,210 m), one of Nepal’s most famous viewpoints. From the summit, watch as the first golden rays of sunrise bathe the snowy peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) in soft light — a mesmerizing sight that leaves trekkers speechless.

After descending for breakfast, the trail to Tadapani meanders through enchanting rhododendron forests, where the trees burst into vibrant reds and pinks during spring (March–April). The route gently ascends and descends across ridges and small streams, with birdsong echoing through the forest canopy. Tadapani (2,630 m) is perched on a ridge overlooking a breathtaking amphitheater of mountains — particularly close views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli glowing at sunset.

Day 3

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours

Leaving Tadapani, the trail begins with a steep descent through dense forests of oak, maple, and rhododendron. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating a tranquil walk down to the Kimrong Khola River. Crossing rustic suspension bridges, you’ll pass through small Gurung hamlets surrounded by terraced fields where farmers grow millet and rice.

The trail then climbs again toward Chhomrong, one of the most beautiful villages in the region. This charming Gurung settlement sits on a hillside terrace with dramatic views of Machhapuchhre’s perfect fishtail peak and the massive south face of Annapurna. Chhomrong serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary — the last large village before the high alpine terrain begins — and offers cozy lodges, local cuisine, and evening views that glow in golden light.

Day 4

Trek Duration: 6–7 hours

Today’s trail begins with a descent down hundreds of stone steps to the Chhomrong Khola River, followed by a steady ascent to Sinuwa (2,340 m). The path soon enters dense bamboo and rhododendron forests — a cool, shaded corridor filled with birds and the gentle sound of flowing streams. Occasionally, you may spot playful langur monkeys leaping through the treetops.

As the trail progresses, you’ll pass the settlements of Bamboo (2,310 m) and eventually reach Dovan (2,600 m). This stretch of the trek is serene, as the vegetation grows thick and the air carries the scent of earth and moss. The valley narrows here, surrounded by towering cliffs and waterfalls cascading down the sides — a peaceful yet dramatic transition toward the high Himalayas.

Day 5

Trek Duration: 6–7 hours

This is a major highlight of your journey — a day filled with alpine beauty and anticipation. The trail climbs steadily through the Himalaya Hotel area (2,920 m) and on to Deurali (3,200 m), where vegetation becomes sparse and the tree line fades. The landscape opens into rugged terrain with glacial streams, icy waterfalls, and high ridges on both sides.

After crossing Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700 m), the valley widens dramatically into the Annapurna Sanctuary — a natural amphitheater surrounded by snow-capped giants. Reaching Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) feels like stepping into the heart of the Himalayas. The 360° view encompasses Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and countless lesser peaks. As night falls, the starlit sky and the glow of snow under moonlight create an unforgettable experience at the top of your trek.

Day 6

Trek Duration: 6–7 hours

After an early morning sunrise — when the snow peaks turn pink, gold, and white in the first light — begin your descent from the Sanctuary. The downhill journey retraces your steps through Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Deurali, offering new perspectives of the valley from above.

The environment gradually transforms from barren alpine slopes to lush subalpine forests as you lose altitude. Returning to Bamboo, the air becomes warmer and the forest denser, alive with the sound of streams and birds. Bamboo serves as a calm resting point surrounded by greenery, perfect for reflection after the awe-inspiring heights of the previous day.

Day 7

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours | Drive Duration: 3–4 hours

The final leg of the trek descends gradually through forest trails and terraced slopes, passing once again through Chhomrong. After a steep descent down stone staircases, you’ll reach Jhinu Danda — a small hillside village famous for its natural hot springs along the Modi Khola River.

Trekkers often take a short walk down to the riverside pools to soak in the warm mineral waters, soothing tired muscles while surrounded by the sounds of rushing water and birdsong. After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive back to Pokhara, winding through valleys and farmlands. Arriving in Pokhara by evening, relax by Phewa Lake, celebrate the successful completion of your journey, and take in the serene reflection of the Annapurna peaks on the water’s surface.
