Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Altitude: 2850m | Drive Time: 8 hours The journey begins early in the morning from Kathmandu, driving east along the Araniko Highway before turning north toward the Solu Khumbu region. The road follows the mighty Sun Koshi River, winding through deep gorges, terraced farmlands, and patches of subtropical forest. The first few hours pass through the fertile Gangetic plains with views of green paddy fields and small village settlements. After crossing Ghurmi and Okhaldhunga, the landscape transitions into mid-hill terraced slopes dotted with pine and oak forests.

Dhap Bazaar sits perched on a gentle ridge at 2,850 m, providing panoramic views of the surrounding ridges and distant peaks. The bazaar is a lively, rustic village with small teahouses and a central marketplace where locals trade vegetables, spices, and crafts. Evening here is tranquil, with stunning views of sunset reflecting on the distant Himalayan ranges. Overnight is at a cozy mountain lodge, and you can stroll around the village to see the traditional stone houses and prayer flags fluttering in the wind.

Day 2

Altitude: Start 2850m, End 2815m | Trek Time: 4–5 hours

From Dhap Bazaar, the trek begins along a gently undulating trail. Initially, the path follows a partially gravel road under construction, winding through small hamlets and terraced farms. The first major viewpoint is at Sigane, where the jagged peaks of the Numbur Himal rise dramatically above the valleys. As you walk, the forested slopes begin to dominate the scenery, featuring rhododendron, magnolia, and pine trees. In spring, the rhododendrons bloom spectacularly in shades of pink and red.

The trek gradually ascends and arrives at Jhapre, a peaceful Sherpa village perched above a steep valley. The village is renowned for its small Buddhist monastery and stupa, which provide insight into local religious traditions. Jhapre offers magnificent views of Everest and Numbur Himal on clear days. The surrounding terraces grow maize, millet, and potatoes, reflecting the region’s agricultural lifestyle. The day is relatively easy, allowing time to explore the village and enjoy the calm of a Himalayan settlement. Overnight at a comfortable tea house.

Day 3

Altitude: Start 2815m, End 3640m | Trek Time: 5–6 hours

The trail from Jhapre climbs steadily through a mixture of forested and open grassy slopes. The first section reaches Bhulbhule, a grassy ridge offering sweeping views of the snow-capped peaks of the Solu-Khumbu region. From Bhulbhule, the trail splits, and you head toward Pikey Peak, passing remnants of old yak herders’ huts and a long Mani wall, which reflects the strong Buddhist culture of the area.

The trail then contours the hillside below Taklung Danda, entering a dense forested section full of rhododendrons, pines, and firs. In spring, the trail is alive with blooming flowers and birdsong, while in autumn, the forest provides a serene and crisp atmosphere. After leaving the forest, the final section to Pikey Base Camp traverses grassy slopes with a panoramic backdrop of distant Himalayan peaks. The Base Camp offers a breathtaking setting for sunset, with views of towering mountains and remote valleys. Overnight at a mountain lodge near Base Camp.

Day 4

Altitude: Base Camp 3640m, Summit 4065m, Jase Bhanjyang 3520m | Trek Time: 4–5 hours

An early morning ascent takes you to Pikey Peak, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in eastern Nepal. From 4,065 m, you can witness an awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama: Everest (8,848 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), Gaurishankar (7,134 m), and Langtang Range. The sunrise bathes the peaks in golden light, illuminating the valleys below and the patchwork of terraced fields.

After soaking in the views, the descent to Jase Bhanjyang takes you through mixed forest, interspersed with open ridges dotted with prayer flags and small shrines. The trail is moderately steep, requiring careful steps over loose stones and roots. Jase Bhanjyang is a serene mountain pass at 3,520 m, ideal for rest and lunch. Even though the distance is short, the ascent and descent make it moderately challenging. The lodge here provides a warm retreat and panoramic views over the surrounding mountains.

The path then continues toward Junbesi, passing small waterfalls, stone terraces, and traditional Sherpa villages.

Junbesi is a culturally rich village at 2,680 m, known for its Buddhist monastery, mani walls, and traditional Sherpa houses. The village offers insight into local life, with residents engaged in farming, herding, and monastic practices.
